Parent/Child Activity: Five Finger Test...
When children choose a book to read for fun, it should be a book they can read easily. Here is a quick way for your child to see if the book is too hard.
1. Find a page that has more space with words on it than space with pictures.
2. Hold up five (5) fingers on one hand.
3. Read the page silently.
4. Each time a word is found that you don't know put down one (1) finger.
5. If all five fingers are used before you get to the end of the page put the book back. It is too difficult.
