Do you know what your school's curriculum says. Every school has one and must show it to parents upon request. Dr. Turben has curricula available so that parents can review grade by grade content.
Preschool Through Eighth Grade
1n 1995, The Department of Health State of Ohio commissioned an 18 Clock Hour Curriculum for Early Intervention Professionals representing 12 disciplines including therapists, mental health professionals, special educators, nurses, psychologists and others.
I was selected from a panel of parents because of the design of the curriculum as it’s related to family life and working effectively with children with disabilities. The effectiveness of this approach appealed to professionals and parents alike. In November of 2009, I prepared the beginnings of this curriculum copywriting the original manuscript after a mandatory 7 year limitation. It is my understanding and my responsibility to the State of Ohio that I continue to share this information, regardless of the fact that the family stories were not shared widely in Ohio.
The core of the curriculum revolves around 12 fictitious families based on real life experiences and activities that promote new knowledge, greater understanding, and belief in the fact that their children can learn. In the educational process of reconvening this information I have discovered that the original families served by this curriculum have progressed and been made more valuable in every way. It is with great credit to all the families that I have served that I introduce the curriculum again in 2009. I hope the stories and their activities bring out the best in yet another generation of children.
