(A)  Explaining an A-B-C Program to a child at regular family meetings - repeat often.

  1. Set a time
  2. Start with a positive statement - a compliment
  3. Describe behaviors  (-) and  (+)
  4. Give reasons why behavior must change
  5. Describe positive consequences that will occur  (+)
  6. Model negative  (-)  behaviors
  7. Practice the  (+)  behaviors every time you have a meeting

If you are successful, the child:

  • Agrees with the plan, creates a Heart Chart
  • Repeats positive consequences/rewards/praise they will get
  • Understand what happens if good behavior does not occur (child is not punished, experiences consequences, and does not get what he/she wants)
