Dear Susan:
Hi.. I’m currently studying children’s services at college in Tasmania, Australia, and we have to do a poster on the activities that promotes development. I was given the age of birth-18 months, and was wondering whether you could give me any information on that topic. It is okay if you can’t.
Yours truly,
Marcia
Dear Marcia:
Here is an outline of ideas for activities.
0-3 months – reflexes, self-regulation, infants primarily use eyes and mouth
3-7 months – fine motor hand movements, communicating through smiling, touching, wriggling, turning, sucking, social skills. Engaging adults attention
8-12 months – vestibular activities, crawling, pulling up, classifying objects, sorting, self-feeding and finding objects hidden, separation anxiety, dependency
12-18 months “old” babies become walking, talking toddlers – they are so smart! Exploration, discovery, words emerge as replacements for actions (like bye-bye; instead of going to the door)
Thanks for writing and visiting our site. You will find all kinds of new and exciting articles on development.
